Phone location on field updates

When a phone's position is saved, how yards and jobsites learn where they are, and how to turn it off.

When a crew member uses a tag page to move an item, report a problem or log hours, FlowNext can save where their phone was at that moment.

What is recorded, and when

  • The phone's position is read only when the tag page opens and is saved only with an update. Nothing is read in the background, between scans or after the page closes.
  • The phone asks the crew member for permission first. If they say no, or the phone is slow to find itself, the update is saved without a position.
  • The tag page tells crews that your company records location with each update.
  • The position appears as a Map link on that entry in the item's history and in the activity log, and is in the CSV exports.

How places learn where they are

A yard, warehouse or jobsite learns its position from the first accurate update made there (to within 100 m), and only a better reading close by replaces it — so one move made from the wrong spot can't drag a jobsite across town. Vehicles and people never learn a position, because they move. The Locations list shows Map once a place is known.

After that, when a crew member opens Move it near a known place, it's suggested in Where is it going?.

Turning it off

An owner can untick Record location with field updates in Settings → General → Field location and press Save. It's on by default. Some states require you to tell employees about electronic monitoring; check what applies to you.
