FlowNext vs. ToolWatch

A ToolWatch alternative for contractors who don't run a tool room

ToolWatch — now part of the AlignOps suite — is built around the warehouse: a tool crib with self-service check-out, pick tickets, requisitions from the jobsite, usage billing to jobs and a sync with your ERP. Its case studies describe contractors with 20,000 and 50,000 assets. FlowNext is for the contractor whose “warehouse” is a shop shelf and six vans: tags on the gear, crews scanning with their phone camera, and a price you can read before you call anyone.

Do you have a tool room?

That's the clearest dividing line. ToolWatch's day revolves around a crib or warehouse: foremen request tools from the job, the warehouse pulls them against a pick ticket, transfers them to the site, and charges the job for the days they're out. Its integrations with Procore, Sage, Viewpoint Vista, CMiC and eCMS carry those charges into accounting. If that's how you run, it's purpose-built for you, and FlowNext isn't a replacement.

Without a tool room, most of that machinery has nothing to attach to. The gear goes from the shop to a van to a jobsite to another van, and the job is simply knowing where it is, who has it and whether it's due for inspection. That's all FlowNext does.

When ToolWatch is the better choice

  • You run a tool crib or warehouse with staff who fill requests.
  • You bill equipment to jobs and want it flowing into your ERP.
  • You need Bluetooth or GPS tracking that doesn't depend on a scan.
  • Your fleet runs to tens of thousands of tools.

When FlowNext is the better choice

  • Your tools live in vans, gang boxes and on jobsites, not behind a counter.
  • You track a few hundred to 2,000 items.
  • You want to try it on your own gear today, without a demo.
  • Your crew won't install an app.

Which one should you pick?

Switching questions

Can FlowNext grow into what ToolWatch does?+

FlowNext doesn't do the tool-room and ERP side today. If you expect to run a crib and bill tools to jobs, start with software built for that.

Does FlowNext have Bluetooth or GPS tags?+

No. Location is saved from the phone when someone moves an item, logs hours or reports a problem from its tag. Nothing is recorded between updates.

Can my supers see what's on their jobs?+

Yes. Each jobsite lists what's there now, and the equipment by location report shows every site with the person in charge and the last activity.

No demo needed — try it on your own gear

14-day free trial, no card. Unlimited field users on every plan, from $39/month after that.
